East facing wall climbing plant suggestions

I have just bought a beautiful portico for over my front door on an east facing wall. I would love an evergreen that will give me coverage all year round but i would also love a beautiful flowering climber. Can you suggest something that will survive Northern Ireland's winter weather! many thanks

Hi @lousmyth20

That sounds lovely!

Try any of the following east facing evergreen climbers for your new porch.

Trachelospermum jasminoides (Star Jasmine)

This vigorous, twining climber produces glossy, dark green leaves and fragrant, star-shaped white flowers in summer. It thrives in sunny or partially shaded locations and is ideal for covering walls, fences, or pergolas.

Clematis armandii (Evergreen Clematis)

This vigorous, woody-stemmed climber boasts glossy, leathery green leaves and fragrant, star-shaped white or pink flowers in spring. It prefers a sunny or partially shaded position and benefits from support for climbing structures.

Jasminum nudiflorum (Winter Jasmine)

Unlike many other jasmines, Winter Jasmine is semi-evergreen and produces bright yellow, trumpet-shaped flowers on bare stems from late winter to early spring. It is ideal for training against walls or fences and can tolerate a range of soil types and conditions.

Lonicera japonica 'Halliana' (Japanese Honeysuckle)

This vigorous, twining climber features semi-evergreen foliage and highly fragrant, tubular white flowers that age to yellow, attracting pollinators. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and is suitable for covering walls, fences, or trellises.

Hope that helps!
