Who is the Garden Ninja?

Lee wanted to create a gardening community where everyone could learn how to garden. No matter how little experience. The Garden Ninja blog and forum help gardeners all over the world troubleshoot and design their own urban spaces.
Lee has a unique problem-solving skill set that means he can design truly beautiful and functional wildlife-friendly garden spaces. His horticulture, design and project management knowledge make him the ideal candidate to help you get the garden space of your dreams.
Where did Lee Burkhill Study?
Lee Burkhill studied Horticulture with the RHS at Edinburgh Botanical gardens and has designed hundreds of urban gardens. He also has over 35 years of hands-on gardening experience.
Lee worked in IT as a project manager for 12 years before making the jump to a career as a garden designer and has never looked back.
Lee specialises in wildlife-friendly gardens and uses a plant-rich approach to his design. His innovative designs are known for their quirky layouts and for engaging their owners to get their hands dirty!

Lee Burkhill is an accomplished public speaker on gardening topics and has spoken for the RHS, giving talks on garden design and also their school gardening projects.
He has also been one of the expert panellists on BBC Radio Manchester’s Saturday morning garden show. Recently, Lee has been voted one of the Top 10 Gardening Bloggers and Garden Vloggers in the UK. Watch one of his videos below to find out why!
Who is Lee Burkhill from Garden Rescue?
Lee Burkhil – the Garden Ninja – is one of the main presenters on BBC1’s Garden Rescue.
He regularly teams up with Charlie Dimmock to compete to makeover unloved gardens in the UK. His popular YouTube channel provides free gardening guides to his army of Ninja followers.
Lee has worked on Series 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 of Garden Rescue and brings his fresh approach to explaining the ‘why’ behind garden design principles and horticulture. In Series 7, Lee also teams up with Chris Hull and Flo Headlam as they battle it out to win garden designs for contributors in need of a garden makeover in the UK.

How Lee Burkhill became a garden designer
Having been a Senior (Prince Practitioner Certified) Project Manager in IT for 12 years, Lee had become frustrated with working on goliaths of slow-rumbling projects. Lee Burkhill yearned to unleash his hidden creative side; even having to subdue his mohawk into a more acceptable hairstyle for work was a daily struggle.
Gardening had always been his retreat and passion. After one particularly gruelling project in 2015, Lee thought enough is enough, ‘I need more meaning in my working life’.

Lee knew that these project management skills would put him in good standing. Lee is also a big believer in making life less complicated. Lee combines project management with his vast horticulture knowledge to provide you with the best garden design options on time, on budget, and without any fuss.

Garden Ninja’s Design Style
Lee believes that anything is possible when designing gardens. Whether you want calm, tranquillity or exciting drama, let Garden Ninja transform your garden, balcony or paved plot into a room you never knew you could have.
Lee Burkhill’s design style focuses on the garden’s core function, using a palette of rich, herbaceous plants, trees, and shrubs to bring it to life. Lee is known for his plant-packed designs that engage wildlife and their owners—keeping hard landscaping and man-made materials to a minimum with his sleek and quirky design styles.

Lee is also famous for his hand-drawn and watercolour designs, which take hours to painstakingly create. Each one is unique to Lee’s design clients and never repeated.
He is a passionate supporter of greening up our grey urban spaces, reducing the concrete jungle, saying no to fake grass and encouraging people to let Mother Nature do most of the work by allowing herbaceous perennials to create a year-round garden.
